The Importance Of Censorship - 2149 Words

They say third times a charm, here’s hoping. I will mention this again, I don’t want to feel that I have to censor what I writing, so the whole enchilada is going to be laid out on the table. Issues are always going to come up with any type of relationship, so for me when they do, you discuss and address them. I would have liked to have rung you and said â€Å"Hey Paul, I need to pop over and have a chat with you, there’s a few things I need to get off my chest and sort out with you†. Crystal clear, is what you were about engaging in any type of conversation along those lines, which is why I didn’t feel comfortable about saying that to you. For a little while now there have been a couple of things that have bothered me lately, and this is what†¦show more content†¦It makes me sad because I ask myself why you feel the need or want to do that. Is it because your making assumptions about how I’m going to react to something you say, that I might give you some sort of grief over what you say, so it makes it easier to spin a tale. The downside to assumptions is that there not always correct. You have brought up with me in the past that there are times that my reaction to something has annoyed and frustrated you. I take it on board when you tell me that sort of stuff, I might not always be successful in doing so, I might need a gentle reminder now and again, but I try my best to change the ‘thing’ that I do so it doesn’t make you feel that way. When you make assumptions you’re actually dictating my reaction for me, and that’s unfair. It makes me angry because you obviously think I’m a fucking idiot, that I’m not smart enough to pick up on it. The other thing that has come up on occasion and been bothering me is that sometimes you make me feel like the dirty little secret. Once again so you get the picture of why I feel that way, here’s a recent scenario†¦ On the Wednesday that we were going to hang out, the plan was that once you had got back home and I hadShow MoreRelatedThe Importance Of Censorship1640 Words   |  7 PagesHow is Censorship Beneficial? Dietary Supplement Free Essays

Dietary Supplement Report Ebony M. Dean SCI/241 January 27, 2013 Joseph Casico Dietary Supplement Report Dietary supplements are vitamins, minerals, herbs and other substances meant to improve your diet. They can come in pill form, capsules, powders and liquids. We will write a custom essay sample on Dietary Supplement or any similar topic only for you Order Now Supplements do not have to go through testing that drugs do. Some supplements can play an important role in your health. For example, pregnant women take the vitamin folic acid to prevent certain birth defects in their babies. Taking any kind of supplements can also be a type of complementary or alternative medicine. The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) do not regulate dietary supplements in the same way that it regulates medicine. A dietary supplement can be sold without research on how well it works. The benefit of taking dietary supplements is that they are designed to augment your daily intake of nutrients. Normally, you should be able to get all the nutrients you need from a well balanced diet. However, taking supplements can provide additional nutrients when your diet is lacking or when certain health conditions cause you to develop an insufficiency or deficiency. Multiple-vitamin supplements provide all the basic vitamins and minerals your body needs. These vitamins are generally safe because they only contain small amounts of each nutrient. Individual nutrients can also be sold as a dietary supplement, but in larger amounts than what’s found in a typical multiple-vitamin. These supplements may be used to treat a simple deficiency, such as an iron deficiency, but sometimes they’re used therapeutically to treat specific health conditions or risk factors. For example, large doses of niacin may be used to raise good cholesterol, and folic acid has been used to reduce the risk of a birth defect called spina bifida. The risk of taking dietary supplements is that some contain active ingredients that have strong biological effects in the body. This could make them unsafe in some situations and hurt or even complicate your health. Using dietary supplements could lead to harmful and even life-threatening consequences such as using supplements with medications whether prescription or over the counter and substituting them for prescriptions medicines. Taking too much of some of these supplements, such as vitamin A, vitamin D, and iron. Some supplements can also have unwanted effects before, during, and after surgery. Always inform your health care provider, including your pharmacist about any supplements your taking especially before surgery. The FDA regulates both finished dietary supplement products and dietary ingredients under a different set of regulation than those covering â€Å"conventional† foods and drug products (prescription and Over-the-counter). Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), the dietary supplement or dietary ingredient manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that a dietary supplement or ingredient is safe before it is marketed. FDA is responsible for taking action against any unsafe dietary supplement product after it reaches the market. Manufacturers are required to produce dietary supplements to minimum quality standards and ensure that they do not contain any contaminants or impurities, and are accurately labeled. Generally, manufacturers do not need to register their products with FDA nor get approval before producing or selling dietary supplements. Manufacturers must make sure that product label information is truthful and not misleading. The manufacturers are required to report all serious dietary supplement related adverse events or illnesses to the FDA as of December 2007. The FDA can take dietary supplements off the market if they are found to be unsafe, adulterated, or if the claims on the products are false and misleading. Folic acid is a type of B vitamin that is normally found in foods such as dried beans, peas, lentils, oranges, whole-wheat products, liver, asparagus, beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and spinach. Folic acid is used for preventing and treating low blood levels of folic acid as well as its complications, including â€Å"tired blood’ (anemia) and the inability of the bowel to absorb nutrients properly. Folic acid is also used for other conditions commonly associated with folic acid deficiency, including ulcerative colitis, liver disease, alcoholism, and kidney dialysis. Women who are pregnant or might become pregnant take folic acid to prevent miscarriage and birth defects such as spina bifida that occur when the fetus’s spine and back don’t close during development. Folic acid is likely safe for most people. Most adults do not experience an aide effects when consuming the recommended amount each day, which is 400 mcg. High doses of folic acid might cause abdominal cramps, diarrhea, rash, sleep disorders, irritability, confusion, nausea, stomach upset, behaviors changes, skin reactions, seizures, gas, and excitability. There is some concern that taking too much folic acid for a long period of time might cause serious side effects. Some research suggests that taking folic acid in doses of 800-1200 mcg might increase the risk of heart attack in people who have heart problems. Other research suggests that taking these high doses might also increase the risk of cancer such as lung or prostate cancer. For folic acid deficiency: the typical dose is 250-1000 mcg per day. For preventing neural tube defects: at least 400 mcg of folic acid per day from supplements or fortified food should be taken by women capable of becoming pregnant and continued through the first month of pregnancy. Women with a history of previous pregnancy complicated by neural tude defects usually take 4 mg per day beginning one month before and continuing for three months after conception. A Gateway Band free essay sample

Do you remember your first concert? I mean really remember it, down to the smallest detail? My brother took me to my first ever concert, to see a band that I had never heard of. When I got home from school he threw me the City Paper, told me to read up, and asked if I would like to go see them. Hesitant as I always was, I did not initially want to go. He told me, â€Å"You’d like them. † So I went with him.Let’s get this straight; The Melvins are not a quality first-concert band. I don’t care how into loud music you are; a person needs time to adjust. As hard-core as you think that a band can be, The Melvins top that. Not mentioning the fact that they had two drummers, that first concert is to this day the loudest noise I have ever heard. We will write a custom essay sample on A Gateway Band or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page My hearing never fully recovered, and neither did my attitude. For the first time in my life, I realized that it was okay to be imperfect. I looked around and saw people who generally enjoyed being who they were. I wondered to myself, â€Å"Why can’t I be like that?† And that’s when things started to change.I can be friends with the weird kids. I don’t need to wear the same clothes as everyone else. I can listen to whatever bands I want and disregard the rest. No longer did I feel the need to have everyone like me. I could be me, and I could be happy being me. This didn’t happen over night, of course. It took a very long time to come to terms with the person I was to become, the person that I am today. When people say that you have to love yourself in order for others to love you, they’re not kidding. Why should anyone respect me if I can’t respect myself? I gained respect, not only from myself, but also from those surrounding me.That one concert changed so much about me, from my appearance, to my outlook on life, and I don’t even listen to The Melvins! They acted, should I say, as a â€Å"gateway band.† They took me away from listening to what I was told to listen to and closer to what I listen to now. I feel as though the music that I listen to now inspires me to do whatever it is that I need to do, whether it be getting my homework done, or making it through tougher challenges. To this day, I am overjoyed with my choice to go to that concert with my brother. If I ever need help with making a decision, I look for inspiration from the part of myself that first decided to go to that concert.
